Melrose Area
Chamber of Commerce Newsletter
4th Quarter, 2007
Newsletter Format Changing
The Melrose Area Chamber
of Commerce Board of Directors has decided that the quarterly chamber newsletter
will now be emailed to members, and mailed to the few members who do not have
email. We will be working on the format of this newsletter in the next couple
months and you should expect to see a more polished look 1st quarter next year.
We hope that you enjoy this new format and please let us know if you have any
suggestions. Thank you for your patience as we work out the bugs of putting out
this new format.
Vice
President Needed
The Melrose Area Chamber
of Commerce is still in need of a Vice President for the 2008 year. This
position is a three year position, with the first year service as Vice
President, the second year President and the third year Past President. Please
consider volunteering for this position, as the chamber is only as strong as
those who are involved in it. Please contact the chamber with any questions you
may have about this position.
Holiday Kick-Off A Success
The Holiday Kick-Off
held on November 23rd this year was deemed a success. We had many people
meandering the streets throughout the day and many more filled the streets to
watch the parade. We had a record number of units in the parade this year with
20 units! Congratulations to first place winner Adley Creek 4-H, second place
winner diversiCOM Melrose Telephone, and 3rd Place Stearns Electric Assn. Thanks
to everyone who participated and we look forward to next year!
Below is feedback from the city website that
we have received:

Melrose
Home, Health and Family Expo Date Set
Mark your calendars for
Saturday April 5 for the Melrose Home, Health and Family Expo. We look forward
to another great expo, however we need some input on what "draw" you would like
for the event. In the past we have used speakers, musicians, children's
activities, demonstrations and money giveaways. Please let the chamber know what
you think worked the best and what you would like to see for this year. Please
come to the general membership meeting on Dec 20 and voice your opinion or call
or e-mail the chamber.
Melrose
Riverfest Plans Underway
The Melrose "Freedom
Fest" has been renamed to Melrose Riverfest! The chamber was forced to make this
decision due to St. Cloud using the name and the close proximity of their event
date to ours. Thank you to all those who submitted names for the contest.
Marlene Blommel was the $25 prize winner.
We have begun to lay down
initial plans for the event and will be trying to firm up our schedule and make
final confirmations of events in January. The committee has decided that we
will not have a gate fee this year. This is good news, however we will all need
to do a little work to make this happen. We need to make up some of the
guaranteed income that was covered by the presales of the gate. This way if the
weekend it a total rainout, we have at least something to cover our costs.
Currently we are looking at a duck race. Duck race tickets will be $10 and we
will sell 1,000 tickets. Prizes will be $2,500 for first, $1,500 for second and
$1,000 for third. We will need businesses to sell these tickets and we will need
people to buy them. Many people have said that they do not want a gate fee, so
let's support this duck race so that we can continue that.
We need your help! We need
people to attend the meetings and help us plan this event. The more people we
have to give us ideas and suggestions the better, so have lunch with us on Jan.
8 at noon at John Dough's Pizza.
