Melrose Area Emergency Services
Fire Department
The Melrose Fire Department consists of thirty volunteer members. The single fire station houses seven apparatus and is located just off I-94 on 2nd Ave E. The fire department protects the cities of Melrose, Meire Grove and Greenwald along with the surrounding rural areas. The volunteer members gather twice a month for training and business meetings and are active in public education of fire safety.
Police Department
The Melrose Police Department consists of four full-time career officers, three part-time officers and four civilian reserve officers. The agency covers four square miles and handles all requests for aid and services. The Police Department's office is located in the Melrose City Center and has a 24 hour dispatch service. Police, fire and EMS services can be contacted by calling 320-256-7211. Emergency calls are 911.
Ambulance Service
The Melrose Area Ambulance Service is city owned and is dedicated to providing quality care to all sick and injured persons in need of medical transportation. The Ambulance Service covers a large area including ten cities and ten townships. The Service provides 24 hour coverage with two ambulances. At present there are seventeen volunteer members who are scheduled for on-call duties. All members are trained as Emergency Medical Technicians and receive continuing education throughout their service as volunteers. The Service has variances to do Advanced Airways, Defibrillation, and IV Maintenance. All Service members volunteer at various community events and teach safety clinics such as CPR and babysitting courses for pre-teens.
